August is National Water Quality Month, a reminder that protecting our water supply starts with the choices we make every day. With drought conditions continuing across Colorado, conserving water not only helps ensure a reliable water supply but also supports the long-term health of our rivers, reservoirs, and streams.

One of the easiest ways to make a difference is by following the mandatory watering restrictions. Water only on your assigned days, avoid watering during restricted hours, and skip irrigation after rainfall. Overwatering wastes treated drinking water and increases runoff, which can carry fertilizers, pesticides, oil, and other pollutants into local waterways.

Simple conservation practices can have a big impact:

  • Water only when your lawn and landscape need it.
  • Check sprinkler systems for leaks, broken heads, and overspray.
  • Adjust irrigation controllers to match weather conditions.
  • Sweep driveways and sidewalks instead of hosing them off.

By using water wisely and following watering restrictions, we can help protect water quality, preserve limited water supplies, and ensure there is enough water for our communities and the environment.

Thank you for doing your part to conserve water and protect this valuable resource.
